Background information

  • The SUSFANS project has started in April 2015, and will be completed on 31 March 2019.
  • A loyal stakeholder group of 30 organisations has been participating in 4 consecutive SUSFANS workshops. This workshop marks the closing event for their involvement.
  • The SUSFANS impact team has completed a tour across its 4 case study countries for outreach on the analytical tools developed in the project i.e. metrics, models and foresight.

Objectives of the final SUSFANS workshop

  1. Report main results to stakeholder core group community, i.e. policy & industries, and testing the ability of the SUSFANS metrics framework and foresight to inform different perspectives on sustainable food systems and healthy diets in the EU.
  2. Make a contribution to an evidence-based policy discussion on food systems transformation at EU level. Discuss how and by whom the SUSFANS framework of analysis and core results of the project could be taken up.
  3. Provide examples and suggestions for private and public policy action on sustainable food systems and healthy diets in the EU at the level of the European institution.

Objective 1 and 3 will be addressed in the morning, Objective 2 and 3 in the afternoon (plenary).

This event will mostly focus on the innovation pathways for livestock and fish sectors and will introduce recent results on the contribution of EU/global consumers on climate change. This second SCG Workshop will introduce the latest scientific developments of the SUSFANS project. The updated Conceptual Framework, and the most recent progress on metrics selection and representation, will be presented.

Results will also be presented of

(i) consumer behaviour analysis;

(ii) metrics for dietary adequacy and environmental sustainability;

(iii) reviews of existing food system scenarios; and

(iv) case studies on

  • (a) proteins from livestock-fish supply chains and
  • (b) micronutrients from fruits and vegetables supply chains.

Parallel working groups will actively review and provide feedback on these preliminary results.
